› Artwork

Deciding on an aesthetic style ended up being partially a practical choice. The game was originally conceived as a side-scrolling platformer,e but we wanted to use artwork appropriated from different games (rather than use original artwork). This would give us the opprotunity to create more complex levels and better looking animations, as the art team would not be limited by their skills. Though we originally used the Super Nintendo game EarthBound, we ended up discarding it in favor of the GameBoy Advance sequel Mother 3, which did not use an isometric view and would be easier to write code for.
{as a point of reference, here are the graphics we appropriated: EarthBound maps, Mother 3 maps, sprites}
